I'm going to start by answering the simple polling question and the first question as "Yes". However, I am now running past my trial period by years. It took me a couple of years to finally be annoyed enough with that damn popup every time I opened WinRAR that I paid the $10 (or so, as it was cheaper then if I recall, but still was a lifetime license).

But, I no longer have access to the email address that I used to purchase it with, so I no longer have the key to get rid of the popup.

After working with it so much recently for backups and whatnot, it's getting annoying enough to pay the $22.33 to get rid of the popup again, but I can't come around to purchase it for a second time...

So, yes, I have bought WinRAR, and it was because that popup after 45 days is annoying.

Will I buy it again? There's a high likelihood. 😞

I use the free version. I never had a need to pay for WinRAR, but I do use it to store files.

If there was something I wouldn't pay money for even if I had just won $1 billion, it's definitely a WinRAR. Even using the free version of it always felt like trying to use my left hand to eat when I'm not left handed.

I have never paid for this amazing piece of software, and I do not know anyone who has.

The thing is, I don't think I ever will because I moved to Linux a few years ago and the ecosystem uses different software and tools, so WinRAR might never be in my sights again.

I use 7 Zip which is free and open source. As long as you can get free alternatives, I do not think there is a necessity to use premium software. I have used trail version of Winrar, though
